17th Green Hoylake

17th Green Hoylake

A Rare and Important Oil Painting by F P Hopkins (Major Shortspoon) signed and dated, “Major S”. “1881”.

This painting is one of a few of Hopkins master Oil paintings, this depicting a gathering of known important characters of the era at the 17th green of Royal Liverpool Golf Club- “Hoylake”.

The piece measures 22″ tall by 44″ wide and remains in its original frame. This piece is pictured in Stirk & Henderson’s story of Hopkins art and his life as a journalist, on page 54…and provides a key to the important figures pictured within the scene

This painting offers one of the most important views of old golf and golfers, as photography at that time was incapable of creating such a record, and in color.

This is a museum quality painting, and a rare opportunity to acquire an original piece of golf art from this early period.
