From the Artist, Jane E. Hixson

“When I first moved to Pinehurst, I’d walk No. 2 in the early morning with coffee and camera. Glorious! And, I knew it would never get old. I think I have enough photos to paint for the rest of my life and I’ve yet to scratch the surface of the genius that is Donald Ross.

As a golfer, I can appreciate the beauty. Even more so as an artist. I still walk the same routes at various times of day and always with my camera as I see things I’ve not noticed before, sometimes looking back.

Years ago I worked with a grounds crew on a golf course. We always left tracks in the morning dew, so this brought back many fond memories. I’m no longer a steward of the land in terms of maintenance, but rather in art.

Mother Nature and Donald Ross make an inspiring pair.

Jane E. Hixson, Artist

A new resident of Pinehurst, Jane is a 6-time National Award Winner and Juried Associate of the Pastel Society of America.

Her pastels bring a unique look and feel to the medium, a reflection of her earlier days painting in oil, watercolor and acrylic. Depth and dimension are achieved through extensive layering of color and a mix of blended and non-blended areas on textured tonal paper.

An avid traveler, her work reflects a palette from among different landscapes and seascape across the country, Europe and the British Isles.

After graduating from Syracuse University School of Art with a BFA in advertising design and a minor in photography from The Newhouse School, she went back to school for an MBA, then opened her own Minneapolis agency. After a 40-year marketing career, she decided to paint.

“I wanted to try to become the artist that I always wanted to be”, she says.
