Maponite’ synthetic material mesh balls, ca. 1898

Here is a near perfect set of ‘The Maponite’ synthetic material mesh balls, ca. 1898.

Maronite balls marked a new era in golf ball construction, with lively play and great durability.

The fate of┬áthese balls grew dim though, as these balls were introduced at the same time as the new rubber-core Haskell ball, which exhibited higher performance…and was immediately adopted by the finest players of the era.

Still, Maponite is considered a must for any display of the evolution of the golf ball.
