Here is a near perfect set of ‘The Maponite’ synthetic material mesh balls, ca. 1898.
Maronite balls marked a new era in golf ball construction, with lively play and great durability.
The fate of these balls grew dim though, as these balls were introduced at the same time as the new rubber-core Haskell ball, which exhibited higher performance…and was immediately adopted by the finest players of the era.
Still, Maponite is considered a must for any display of the evolution of the golf ball.
